Knights News · Kandel Qualifies for State in Shot Put as Knights Compete at Regional Track Meet


The West Holmes Knights track team participated in the Regional track meet at Muskingum University on Thursday, May 24.  In field events, Madison Kandel qualified for State in girls Shot Put by placing 4th overall with a toss of 37 feet, 8.5 inches.  Grady Hay competed for a chance at a state birth in Pole Vault and Michael Taylor competed in the boys Long Jump as well.  Hay finished 5th with a vault of 13 feet, 4 inches and Taylor finished 10th with a leap of 20 feet, 3.5 inches.

In the 100 meter dash preliminaries, Kaylin Martin finished 8th in the second heat with a time of 13.28 seconds.  Ethan Kinsey competed in the 300 meter hurdles and finished 6th in the first heat with a time of 42.44 seconds.  The boys 4×200 relay team of Michael Taylor, Brady Taylor, Jonathon Kandel and Brayden Chaney earned a chance to run in the finals by placing 1st in the first heat with a time of 1:30.  The boys 4×400 relay team of Michael Taylor, Jonathon Kandel, Travett Boughman and Brayden Chaney won the first heat and placed 2nd overall with a time of 3:26.  They will run in the finals on Saturday for a chance to qualify for State.  In the boys 400 meter dash, Brayden Chaney took 1st place overall with a time of 49.25 seconds, which gives him the opportunity to run for a chance to qualify for State in the finals.
