The Regional finals turned out to be a good day for West Holmes Knights Track athletes. There will be two relay teams and three individuals competing this weekend in Columbus at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Preliminary races will be run on Friday, June 1 and final races and events will take place on Saturday, June 2.
The boys 4×200 relay team of Michael Taylor, Brady Taylor, Jonathon Kandel and Brayden Chaney placed 3rd with a time of 1:29.47 in the Regional final race to advance to State. They will compete in the 4×200 preliminary race on Friday at 2:40 pm. The boys 4×400 relay team of Michael Taylor, Jonathon Kandel, Travett Boughman and Brayden Chaney were Regional Champions by running a record setting time of 3:22.65. They will run in the preliminaries for a chance to compete in finals on Friday at 4:10 pm.
Individually, Senior Brayden Chaney was the Regional Champion in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.16 seconds. The 400 meter dash preliminaries will be Friday at 3:10 pm. Freshman Katie Sprang placed 2nd in the girls 800 meter run to earn a spot at State with a personal record time of 2:16.67. She will be running in the finals on Saturday at 2:30 pm. Madison Kandel, who qualified for State in Shot Put with a throw of 37 feet, 8.5 inches, will be throwing at 9:30 am on Saturday for a chance to place at State.
Kaylin Martin competed on Saturday in the Regional finals for girls Long Jump and made the podium with a leap of 16 feet, 3.75 inches and an 8th place finish. Jacob Goudy competed in the Regional finals in boys High Jump and finished on the podium in 8th place with a jump of 5 feet, 10 inches.
