Knights News · Knights Track Athletes Moving on to Regionals

The West Holmes boys track team showed once again they are a force to be reckoned with as they captured their second straight District Championship.  The team posted 97 points between running and field events to defeat the runner-up, Indian Valley (85).

Winning district crowns were the 4×400 meter relay team of Travett Boughman, Jonathan Kandel, Grady Hay, and Brady Taylor, winning with a time of 3:29.95.  Jonathan Kandel claimed the title for the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.23.

Brady Taylor won second place in the 400 meter dash recording a time of 51.28 seconds.  The 4×200 meter relay team of Travett Boughman, Grady Hay, Jonathan Kandel, and Brady Taylor posted a third place finish with a time of 1:31.66.  Cade Wagers earned his first regional trip by posting a third place finish in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:36.45.

In field events, Lane Graham and Jacob Goudy will advance in discuss.  Graham took second place with a throw of 152’3” and Goudy placed fourth with a throw of 147’5”.  Graham will also advance in shot put by placing second with a throw of 54’7”.  Goudy will advance in high jump with a jump of 6’2” to earn a second place finish.  Emmett Myers and Grady Hay posted impressive finishes in pole vault by both going 12’6” and placing second and third place respectively.

On the girls side, it was an impressive finish for a team that has been small, but mighty all year.  The girls posted 48 points for a sixth place finish out of 12 teams.

The girls 4×400 meter relay team of Kaylin Martin, Brogan Steimel, and Katie Sprang looked strong winning a district crown with a time of 4:14.91.

Katie Sprang took second place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.46 and will look to continue to improve in the regional.

Kaylin Martin posted two strong second place finishes in long jump (16’6.5”) and the 100 meter dash (13.06) to earn her chance to compete in regionals.

Macey Gilstrap punched her first regional birth ticket with a vault of 7’6” in the pole vault to earn a fourth place finish.

The Division 2 New Concord regional tournament is slated to take place on Thursday, May 23 and Saturday, May 25 at Muskingum University.  On May 23, field events will begin at 5:00 pm and preliminary running events will begin at 6:30 pm.  On May 25, the remaining field events will begin at 11:30 am and finals running events will begin at 1:00 pm.  Good luck to all the West Holmes Knights Track athletes who will compete in the regional tournament next week!
