Knights News · Knights Results from Day One of the 2019 Muskingum Division 2 Regional Tournament


Individuals from the West Holmes Track Team participated in the Region 7 OHSAA track tournament at Muskingum University on Thursday night.  It turned out to be a successful night that saw individuals moving on to finals and personal records set.

On the girls side, the 4×400 team of Kaylin Martin, Hannah Rohr, Brogan Steimel and Katie Sprang ran a great race and placed 9th place with a season best time of 4:13.94.  Kaylin Martin ran a strong 100 meter dash with a time of 13.19.  She will run in finals on Saturday for a chance to qualify for the State Track and Field meet next week.

On the boys side, field event individuals participated in finals and state qualifiers were determined.  Emmett Myers and Grady Hay earned a 9th place finish both clearing 12 feet.  Lane Graham finished 12th place in boys discus with a throw of 131 feet, 3 inches.  Jacob Goudy placed 8th in boys discus with a toss of 139 feet, 11 inches, which earned a spot on the podium.

Running events featured intense competition and all Knights individuals and relay teams will be moving on to compete in finals on Saturday.  The 4×200 relay team of Travett Boughman, Jonathan Kandel, Grady Hay, and Brady Taylor will advance to finals with a time of 1:31.53.  The boys 4×400 relay team of Grady Hay, Jonathan Kandel, Travett Boughman, and Brady Taylor took 5th place and will advance to finals as well with a time of 3:30.63.  Individually, Brady Taylor ran a fantastic race in the open 400 meter dash that saw all eight qualifiers finish within one second of each other.  He earned a chance to run on Saturday with a time of 50.98 seconds.

Final field events that will take place on Saturday will be girls long jump, pole vault, and discus, and boys high jump and shot put.  Jacob Goudy will be vying for a chance to qualify for State in high jump and Lane Graham will be competing in shot put for the Knights.  Kaylin Martin will be looking to qualify in long jump on the girls side.

Along with the final qualifiers from Thursday night, there will also be final races in the 800 meter run and 3200 meter that will feature Knights track athletes.  Katie Sprang will look to advance to State in the girls 800 meter run and Jonathan Kandel will do the same on the boys side.  Cade Wagers will compete in the 3200 meter run for the Knights.

Field events will begin at 11:30 am and finals running events will start at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 24 at Muskingum University.  The top 4 athletes/teams in each event will advance to the State Track and Field meet in Columbus next week.  Good luck to each West Holmes Knights track athlete who will be competing!
