Madison Kandel earns “Girl Field Event Award”
Madison Kandel scores 20 points on Friday night at the OCC Track and Field Championship to earn the Girl’s Top Field Event Award. Kandel finished first in the Shot Put with a throw of 37’07.00” and completed her night in classic style by claiming first place in the Discus on he last attempt of the completion with a throw of 124’02”. The Girls Team did have another first place finisher in Katie Sprang. Sprang entered her first OCC Track Championship as the lead runner in the 800 meters and that’s were she finished. Katie ran for 2:21.78 seconds to earn her first OCC Track Championship Medal.
Sprang would later join Kaylin Martin, Daybria Yerian, and Brogan Steimel in the 4 x 400 meter relay to finish in 4th place with a time of 4:20.73. In the 4 x 200 meter relay Martin, Yerian, Sprang and Hannah Rohr teamed up to place 6th with a time of 1:53.02. Yerian, Steimel, Rohr and Megan Mellor ran in the 4 x 100 to finish 6th in a time of 55.64 seconds. The 4 x 800 relay team of Steimel, Ashly Phillips, Erin Norman and Kylie Graber brought home 3 team points as they finished in 6th place for the Knights.
In other individual events Maiah Geib placed 7th in the 300 meter hurdles and Kaylin Martin jumped herself into 7th place in the Long Jump. Macey Gilstrap would place 6th in the Pole Vault with a PR of 7’06”. Kaylin Martin finished her fourth event of the night, the 100 meters, in 4th place with a time of 13.10.
The Ladies will turn their attention toward the District Meet next week at West Holmes Stadium on Thursday and Saturday.
